Alain Chesnel was born in October 1954 in Paris, France. Prior to starting Overlordtour, he was an engineer and contractor for 20 years in various parts of France and the world. Being well travelled, and versed in many cultures, Alain was then led by his true passion and knowledge of WWII and Normandy to start Overlordtour and leave the field of engineering.
Alain spent his boyhood years in France listening to stories about WWI and WWII as related by his parents, and grandparents. His two grandfathers fought for France during WWI. At the age of 13, Alain learned of the moving and impressive stories of the Battle of the Marne, Verdun, the Chemin des Dames and the landing onto the Dardanelles coasts…
Our PLANNING ADMINISTRATOR, was born in Torquay Bay, south Devon, England. She moved to France at the age of 8. Her Grandfather was Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Consett.
Christopher Darcy Preston Consett was born on December 6, 1910, in London, the son of Rear Admiral Montagu Consett, and educated at Eton College and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst.
He was commissioned in August, 1930, and served with the King’s Royal Rifle Corps at Tidworth in Wiltshire.
From 1934 to 1939, he served with the Somaliland Camel Corps in East Africa.
In 1939, he became a company commander with the 1st Battalion of the King’s Royal Rifle Corps, being promoted to second-in-command in 1941.
In 1941, he won the Distinguished Service Order (DSO), followed a year later by the Military Cross (MC).
His DSO was as a captain so it must have been something quite outstanding, but he was very shy about it.
His MC was as a colonel. It was in the retreat at Gazala in Egypt when Rommel was making a push.
Between May 1942, and January 1943 he commanded the regiment’s 1st Battalion in North Africa, and saw action at El Alamein.
From July, 1943, to March, 1944, he was second-in-command of the 11th Battalion in North Africa and Italy. He commanded the 2nd Battalion from December 1944 to July 1945.
He retired from military service in 1948 and farmed in the former Rhodesia and southern England. He retired to North Yorkshire in the mid-1980s.
Rebecca our PLANNING ADMINISTRATOR, was born in Winchester, England in 1980 and as a child had many enjoyable family holidays in France.
Rebecca has always had a passionate interest in culture, literature and history which was always encouraged by her maternal grandparents. They were both fluent in French which was unusual in England at the time and they both played their part during World War II. Her grandfather served with the Royal Signals in both France and Belgium. One of Rebecca’s earliest memories is of her grandfather describing to her the part he played in the War. Her grandmother was in the WRAC (Women’s Royal Army Corps) and spent the War on the Isle of Man listening to, and transcribing, German radio signals.
Her paternal grandfather served in the Royal Navy while her paternal grandmother did her bit at home working in the factories.
Rebecca continued her interest in literature and history, graduating from the University of Manchester in 2001 with a degree in the Arts. She then pursued her dream of seeing the world and her travels took her from Europe to Africa, India, South America and New Zealand to name a few!
Her journey then led her to France where she spent time in the ski resort of Chamonix in the French Alps before settling with her family in the Midi-Pyrenees where she divides her time between bringing up her children and working for Overlordtour!
Emilie our PLANNING ADMINISTRATOR, was born in Aurillac, France in 1981.
Emilie has always had a passionate interest in culture, travel and languages which led her to study English at University. After her studies she went to London to perfect her language skills and entered the International House of London to become a language trainer. She started to teach French to foreigners and after 7 years in England she decided to continue her journey to Brazil. She learnt Portuguese and continued teaching French and English to foreigners.
After 5 years living in South America she came back to France to her native region, in Corrèze, and decided to work in tourism. This is where she met with Overlordtour Company. She now uses her language skills to help people plan their perfect trip to visit the D-Day sites in Normandy.
